x2100 won't reboot after power reset

hi, i have an x2100 server in a datacenter and for some reason when i reset the power on it will not reboot. i need to hit the reset button on the front of the machine, incovenient since i'm not local to the machine.

i had a look at the startup screen but didn't see anything in the bios for enabling this, is this true or am i missing something?

thx

You may want to check to make sure that there is no non-bootable media like a CD or floppy still inserted in the server (I had this happen to me) you see nothing but a blank screen with no error message. Hope this helps.

hi, thx for the message but no there's no media in the dvd drive. i have a feeling this is some kind of bias setting but i don't see it when i boot the machine. there has to be a way though, the fans on this machine are so loud it has to live in a server room / data center and i can't believe admins drive every time they want to reset the machine..

do you have access to the ILOM. You can logon to the interface to check the status of the server.

hi, thx for the reply. i don't have that option setup at the moment.i'd just the machine to come up without a manual reset on the front button after a power cycle. not sure how that relates to the ILOM though..

Hello,

these forums are user-to-user not Sun support.

There are only few contributors that have the expertise/experience to give clues regarding Sun x64 systems.

The X2100 is basically a PC in a Sun case.

I would suggest that you open a service-case.

Michael

You may want to look in the BIOS for a setting saying "state after power up". By default, this is "stay down". You'll want to change it to "boot".
