Second Attempt : JAVA command won't work after upgrade

This is my second posting on this. It seems my first posting was erased for some reason as I cannot find it and searching for postings using my user name turn up nothing! Very odd!!

OS: Mepis Linux

I upgraded to the latest verison of JAVA for linux, but when I did I can suddenly no longer invoke the "java" command in a terminal window and run applications.

What do I need to set in order for this to work?
