Outlook/Connector crashes on aliases

We have Outlook clients with the Connector and have been experiencing Outlook crashes when receiving emails sent to a Global Address Book alias.

Has anyone out there seen anything similar?

It happens to about 10% of our user base.

Thanks

Hm. I never use GAB aliases.Do these mails include hundreds of addresses in the headers?

No, not hundreds, only about 40 or so.

We had a similar problem during the Outlook Connector installation, where Outlook would crash continously after the installation. But that turned out being related to the Personal Address Book being somehow corrupted in the server - Although it worked with UWC webmail...

We got around that one.

This Global Address Book group causing Outlook to crash is the current hassle.

It's strange because the crash happens when the user receives the message sent to the group. That is, the user is part of the group. Sending email to the group is fine...

Oh, and another thing. The email goes through without a problem to all members, except for Outlook re-starting as soon as the message comes in.

Hi,

What version of the connector are you currently running or more precisely, what version are the people who are experiencing the crash running?

What version/patch level of Outlook are they running, and does this differ from users who are not experiencing the same issue?

Regards,

Shane.

As far as I can see, the problem is only happening on Outlook 2003 SP2 and seems to be happening on all of these.

I believe that's one of the supported versions for the connector.

Outlook 2000 and 2002 doesn't display the problem... I'm very worried about what will happen with the newer versions of Outlook.

Hi,

I had a quick look through the existing cases and bug-fixes from your OC version to the latest internal patch release; couldn't find anything that matches your particular issue.

If you are able to get to this site :

http://sunsolve7.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-122018

This has the latest 'public' patch release/version. Give this a try - given that your problem is easily reproducible you should be able to tell pretty quickly if it fixes the problem or not.

If still no joy, log a Sun support case.

Regards,

Shane.

Thanks!!!I looked through the docs and it seems to possibly address this hanging issue, as well asa few minor problems we have encountered.I already downloaded the patch and will start testing asap. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just an update... Haven't deployed the patches yet, but pinpointed the cause.

This issue can be reproduced everytime by sending a message in Rich Text format to any group email. This combination is what causes the crash.

A message to any group email address is harmless.

A message in Rich Text format is harmless.

The 2 combined cause all the Outlook 2003 clients that receive the message to crash... It's harmless to Outlook 2000 and 2002 clients.
