a post graduate student welcomes all member to participate

Dear all;

I am a postgraduate student, and currently finishing term 2 of my information systems masters ... I have to choose a project idea that is (advanced and masters worthy) as my course leader always mentioned to me ... I have came up with many ideas but got rejected .. Was wondering if you can help me with any project ideas ... just anything out of your mind ... all ideas and opinions are welcome..

My level in java is average.. I have done many programs during my past studies.. I don抰 consider myself a novice and definitely not an expert but I think I can handle my self well with java ..

Regards

You could come up with an English-language, heuristics-based lameness filter that would auto-reply to submitters of posts with the appropriate Google links... ;-P

Please...do not...type...like this...No offense, but if you cannot come up with a project idea independently and research it, why are you trying to do postgrad work?

Thanks (kevjava) and (hunter9000) for your help, I appreciate it.

Sorry (Djaunl) if my way of typing was not up to standard, i didn't mean it really. I did come up with 3 research ideas and 2 product developing ideas. I can mention them if you want to : ) and what the project idea got to do with my ability to do postgraduate work ? it is an idea not a code that i want !

The purpose of me sending the request for ideas to research all member's needs, to make a difference, something beneficial to wider audience. this post is part of my research !

<shameless plug>

how about creating a checker playing ai using evolutionary programming, to evolve a neural network based AI that can beat most novice players?

Here is my implementation: (well only the front end, and several best neural networks)

http://www.absoluteabandon.com/mk/NeuralNetCheckerAI/

i will sell you the source code for 5000 USD

does that actually come with the source code? in java?

he can have the same paper from which i based my program for free: http://www.natural-selection.com/Library/2001/IEEE-TEVC.pdf

Well I dont know if he wants your source code. I just played your

game and although im dead the game is still waiting for my move.

Ill sell you the fix to your program for $500.

Heres a taste:

if(checkersPieces == 0){

dontWaitForMove();

}

ok ****, im just making sure. i think ive only beaten that program like 4 times, out of maybe 100. its not really possible to win unless you somehow attain a huge advantage and not let it get any kings at the end. or maybe im just stupid.

i remember my old days when i use to play checkers i loved it. this applet have really inspired me and one day my quest in creating a chessboard will be soon over. Hope that day will come soon.

Yea, thats one of the first official rules to get thrown out in any

"house rules" game. (And flying kings is the first to get added, lol)

I know thats what it was like in my family.

I've never heard of "Flying Kings."

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Checkers isnt checkers without flying kings.

All FK means is that Kings can move any number of spaces.

From wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkers

In international draughts, kings can move as far as they want in diagonals like a bishop in chess. However, they cannot capture like a bishop, but jump over the captured piece, moving over as many empty fields as the player wants but jumping over only a single, opposing piece in each jump. (As with men, a king may make successive jumps in a single turn provided that each is a capture.) This rule, known as flying kings, is not used in English draughts, in which a king's only advantage over a man is the ability to move and capture backwards as well as forwards. Notice that captured pieces are removed from the board only after capturing is finished. Thus sometimes the captured but not yet removed piece obliges a king to stop after capturing at a given field where he in turn will be captured by the adversary.

the rule is that if you can capture, then you must capture, that is the official rule of the game. there is nothing wrong with the game play other then the fact that there is no notification of the game ending. maybe ill fix that some day. but right now i am working on my AIM bot which is much more fun

You could also look for color search. The idea is that you have pictures lets say of marble stones. You want to search for all those marble pictures which have Beige color. You would be displaying your search result in order of highest % of color found. Like for an eg. pic1 has 95% of beige , pic2 has 92% of beige, pic3 has 85%...
