receiving strings from other applications...
i am trying to create a program which takes input for anything typed on a keyboard no matter what application has precedence at the time. For example, if the program is running and a word document is open and "<stringGoesHere> is typed in, then the program can use those characters. Is this possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Are you working for the CIA?
lol no im working for my cousin.
Is your cousin working for the CIA? Or the KGB (oops, the non-KGB), or MI5?abillconsl
lol no were prolly not old enuff
Your cousin ... Fidel?Yucks aside, you can't do that in pure Java. If you were to describe what you are trying to do, what your goal is,perhaps forum members could suggest something.

ummm ya... im trying to get a password back. when it is typed in on aim, i need the running program to take that string from the keyboard and then print it out to the user

u guys r strange. i need help.
As was mentioned - you probably can't do this easily with Java. It's also strange why you would want to ;OP
this thread is very strange, as a government employee I feel compelled to report you to Asio, who, if they deign to notice at all, may or may not call their Cousins (they have lots, it's a very close family, if you know what I mean) to pop round and swap all the letters round on your keyboard, unless of course the bloke who does that kind of thing is on holidays, or is just hung over.
ooooookkkkkkk... im leaving now.. yall rnt helping.
Did help ... told you you probably can't do this with Java. Nothing is impossible, but this is one thing that Java is not good at. You can wait for someone who knows a work-a-round that is beyond me (very possible indeed) or you can take that advise and try another method (there is software around for this) or discard the pjct. You did not tell us why you wanted to do this.

> ooooookkkkkkk... im leaving now.. yall rnt helping.No. Most of us aren't keen on spyware and that sort of thing and don't want to encourage it.

If you know assembly language programming you can do anything.

check reply 7. He wants a key logger to steal someones password.

Does it really sound like I'm that naive? He told us what he wanted to do, but not why ... check several other replies regarding spying, etc. ...
