Hard disk partitioning

Hello;

I have Solaris 8 on my hard disk. I was trying to create a news partition table. When I try to modify my current partition table. It would say " Can not modify disk partition while it has mounted partitions."

I would like to know how to create, name and label a new partition without unmounting the file system or " / ".

Or how to unmount a mounted partition?.

Thanks

Is that the exact error message? When do you get it?

The launch of 'format' should have a warning about mounted partitions, but it should still allow changes.

If the 'label' is disallowed, you might be able to use 'prtvtoc' and 'fmthard' to make changes, but often 'format' is preferable due to being able to work with cylinder counts directly.

Are you up-to-date on patches?
