POLL: Looking for info on L100 Tape Library

Anyone out there using an L100 tape Library?

We have one and every 3-4 month it requires service. It always seems to be that the picker assembly can't properly remove the tape from the tape drive which brings the whole library down. Power cycle and recalibrate the robot fixes it for 1 minute to a couple of days. It is not consistant.

SUN service(aka Quantum Service) has had to replaced the whole unit 4 times in 1.5 years. It just keeps coming back.

Before you say it....It is not a system or SCSI issue because it is reproduced with the library completely disconnected to the server. It seems to be mechanical.

Any comments?

Hi,

We have an L100 Library attached to a E450 box. Within the past year, we've replace all 4 LTO2 tape drives on this library. We're in the same boat as you are, every 3 or 4 months there is a problem with one of the tape drives. Since last Oct/Nov, we have had to replace one of the tape drives 4 times.

We keep seeing the following errors:

Feb 10 02:25:57 rosu2 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@4,2000/pci@1/scsi@4 (qus2):

Feb 10 02:26:17 rosu2 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@4,2000/pci@1/scsi@4 (qus2):

We have a Sun case opened for this instance, but we're not getting anywhere it seems.

What software is controlling the library? We are using SAMFS.

We have the had SUN/Quantum come and replace the whole unit 4 times now and they have replaced at least 12 tape drives in 1.5 years. Unit holds 5 drives.

We are considering getting a badge and desk for the Service Rep. The Rep has now been here a week! Change this, change that, another new unit(#5 - Will not inventory), swap this, etc., etc., etc.
