Java Desktop R3 will not load
Installed JD3 on ultra60 using the GUI on DVD. Installed Entire OS (11/06) and selected the new option about not allowing users to be able to run all stuff from remote login.
Can login to CDE no probs and all seems well.
When I try to login to JD3 it starts to load then returns me back to login screen.
The most relevent debug I can find is from /.dt/startlog which states:
/usr/dt/bin/Xsession[745]: 2372 Hangup
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)
I've no clue as to what this means.
Any help would be appreciated.
Jim.

I think this might be due to a problem with the graphics card 0.0
I've tried a few different setting for the card via fbconfig with no joy.
Is there any other application (used Xconfigurator on Linux) that I should be using to configure my graphics card for X windows?
Thanks,
Jim

The Ultra-60 does not have any integrated graphics.
Thus, there's a frame buffer card installed to one of your slots.
there may be another command line utility, besides fbconfig
that is more appropriate for that specific card and its capabilities.
Shut down the system, open it up and examine the card.
Find the barcode ID sticker and get the first seven digits of that part number.
Come back to this thread and paste the results here,
such as 370-xxxx, or 375-xxxx, or 501-xxxx.
Then go to Docs.Sun.Com and search for any available documentation
for that same seven-digit number.
The SSH link for the U-60 is ...

The frame buffer specific application is GFXconfig.
From GFXconfig -prconf
type: GFX8P
Board: TSI GFX 8P
it's current resolution is 1152x900x66
depth: 24
To be honest I don't know what to do next, just fed up with yet another problem when just trying to get the basic's set up.
Many thanks,
Jim.

Review the man page for GFXconfig.
Change the resolution to 1024x768 and you'll be able to maintain
a 24bit color depth.Your JDS icons might be a tiny bit larger, but it'll work.
Alternatively, change it to 1280x1024 and live with a color depth of 8bit (256 colors).
Your current Sun-default 1152x900 resolution is occasionally difficult for PC monitors to render.
The PGX8 card and the PGX32 card each use that specific command-line utility.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/U60/components.html#Graphics
The PGX8 card cannot do 24bpp at 1280-mode (insufficient graphics RAM),
whereas the PGX32 card should be able to comfortably do 24bit on 1280x1024.
If we had that actual part number from the card, we could confirm which one you own.
