T2000 disk upgrade 73gb to 146gb

Hello,

our T2000 has four internal 73gb disks configured with two raid1 sets. The first raid1 set is for solaris and the second for applications.

Now we want to replace the second raid1 set with 146gb disks and my question is it possible to replace the first disk of the second raid with a 146gb disk, sync the mirror and then replace the second disk with a 146gb disk, sync the mirror and then run a kind of grow-raid to use the full 146gb for the second raid1 set?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Yes, it is possible. While creating two-way mirroring, slice must be the same size or greater than other submirror. You can also look at volume manager docs for this rule. regards, zulusa..

Hello zulusa,

thanks for your response. I've forgotten to tell that the raid sets are not SDS/SVM raid sets because there is an T2000 internal hardware raid-controller, a kind of LSI raid-controller so I belive the SVM documentations are not very helpfull.

The best way to do this is dump the data to tape or SAN, then upgrade the disks and restore. If you attempt to mirror the 146GB to the original 73GB, the 146GB may end up only displaying 73GB of available space. More details on the internal controller are available in this infodoc: 82832
