E250 serial console disabled?

Hi.

i just got a 250 server and i can't get the serial console to work. I connected with a null modem cable to a pc and trying to access it with putty, but the screen is blank. Is is possible to disable the serial console on the server? (i have zero info what happened with this server in the past, but it is working)

If it's possible, how can i reset the server to factory defaults?

Thanks

P.

hold the Stop and N keys down when starting up (until splash screen) it should say something about setting back to factory defaults... that is, if you have a Sun keyboard/mouse...try that now and get back to us.haroldkarl

ok, do peruse the service manual...

http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/pdf/805-5160-10.pdf

any chance you can find/borrow a Sun keyboard?

anyway... http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/Servers/Workgroup_Servers /Sun_Enterprise_250/index.html

is the location for the rest of the documents...

been a long time since I played with an E250... cute beast... you have a 25 pin to 9 pin null modem cable? or 25 pin->cat 5-> 9 pin variant?

all the Sun null modem work I have done as been 25 pin->9pin to 9 pin serial port to serial port to a peecee and using windoze terminal.... 9600 ectera...

when in doubt, use a hammer! the other thing is, do you know it works?
