Faulty memory on Sun Fire V240

Hello,

I have a Sun Fire V240 server system that reports a memory error.

Is it possible to know which memory module needs replacement, without having to physically open the server?

Here's the error message at boot time :

NOTICE: CPU 1 has 2048/4096 MB of memory disabled

ERROR: The following devices are disabled:

dimm6

Here's the prtdiag error :

Two memory modules for cpu#1 (not cpu#0) will need to be replaced.

V210 and V240 RAM is stocked by Sun as kits of registered pairs, not single DIMMs.

1 1 MB/P1/B1/D0 failed

1 1 MB/P1/B1/D1 unused

shows that only one is "bad" but you will replace both of them.

CPU#1 is at the front of the system.

Bank#1 slots are the outer two slots (far right, as you face the system).

Use your Service Contract's login account to Sunsolve,

go to the Sun System Handbook,

and look at the v240 system board layout.

... just a guess, but they're probably your 1GB modules.

Are they from a 3rd party, or from Sun ?
