you mean it only has one of the two redundant power supplies? then, buy

the second on... most likely off Ebay...

otherwise, what do you mean by "dual" power supply... it is set up for dual power supplies...

On the back of my E250 there is a bottom pullout power supply but above it is a blank plate where on the servers with dual power supply's would have the 2nd one.

I am wondering if all E250 are ready for 2 redundant power supply's and the original owner of my server just didnt want to pay the extra $$ for 2 power supply's , My ? is am I able to remove the plate and buy another power supply off ebay and just slip it in or is there a different boards inside that need to change like a dual backplane that they plug into ?

Thanks again

Chris

Find one, buy it, install it and you are ready! it is just that simple...the E250 is a nice little server, have fun!if you are in the states, $25 + shipping on Ebay... no need to buy the big bucks version....haroldkarl

Well, in that case.... Stop + A will be the next answer.... the question is, "How do I install an OS on my E250?" this will work only if you have Sun keyboard and mouse...enjoy!haroldkarl

Ok just ordered a mouse & keyboard now I think im going to need something else to hook up the monitor

I dont believe that it has a VGA card installed , wont know till it arrives during the week , can i buy just a simple converter plug (SUN to VGA) or is the signal different that I cant use a regular pc monitor.

Also can I use any SUN VGA card or do I need a certain one for the E250

Thanks Again

you are most likely limited to the list I have already given you on the web site... this beast is a server, so don't expect to make it a peecee... I am not a command line guy, so I know the E250 will work with a few Sun branded frame buffers...haroldkarl

Hello Chris,

until the keyboard and mouse arrives you should review the E250 User's Guide and Service Manual (see under Related Documentation).

The (optional) graphics boards (frame buffer) use either a VGA (HD-15) or 13W3 (larger connector with 3 big contacts and 10 smaller ones, in sum 13 contacts) connector. Boards with a VGA connector work with most monitors (CRT and flat-panel), the ones with 13W3 connector are likely to cause problems with most non-Sun monitors.

The least expensive graphics card for the E250 is the PGX-32 ("Raptor").

Another item you should get is a null-modem cable. These cables are very useful for troubleshooting and to use the system in a headless configuration (w/o graphics card, directly attached keyboard/mouse).

After installation of Solaris and the RSC (Remote System Control) software, you can access the system from the network after adding users.

Now I need to get a replacement fan on the 3 fan assembly the lower fan that cools the HD's is frozen feels like a shot bearing im trying to find out if I can replace it with any 12v DC 120mm fan or does it have to be the same exact fan I cant locate any fans that draw .49 amps is it ok to put in a fan that draws say .20 amps and so on and if I do change the amps do I have to use 3 of the same fans or can you mix them up ?
