Ultra AXmp Server not booting - 4324 Motherboard
We have (had) a great workhorse SPARCengine Ultra AXmp server with a 4324 motherboard. One of our techs accidentally plugged in the floppy drive into J0505 (SROMBO) instead of the J0602 and turned on the server. The sever begins to boot and we get lights on all of the drives but nothing comes up on the monitor at all.
What are the ramifications of plugging in a floppy to the SROMBO jumper? Would this fry the motherboard partially/completely or is there a component(s) that we can replace to get the server working again?

Hello,
starting in reverse order
... is there a component(s) that we can replace to get the server working again?
The UltraAXmp is one unit (review the nice stickers "WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED" on the top) consisting of System I/O board with chassis, Compute Module, the two CPU complexes and the System Control Board.
If the System I/O Board got damaged you have to replace the whole unit.
Disassembling the Ultra AXmp isn't recommended (and not documented). The individual components aren't available as spares parts, only the whole unit.
What are the ramifications of plugging in a floppy to the SROMBO jumper? Would this fry the motherboard partially/completely .. ?
You can compare the pin-out of the SROMBO and floppy port.
Pin 2 of SROMBO carries Vcc (supply voltage) while pin 2 of the floppy connector carries the FD_DENSEL signal. Most of odd numbered pins (1-23) are address lines (ADR19-ADR0) while these on the floppy connector are GND.
I would recommend that you either replace the whole system (with a more recent model) or try to get a replacement from second hand.
Have to tried to attach to the serial/console port ?
Btw. the Ultra AXmp is part number 501-4321 not 501-4324. The enhanced model Ultra AXmp+ (P/N 501-5487) is more common.
I did a quick google search with your part number 501-4324 and you're right this is indeed the System I/O Board. If you have capable technicans that can disassemble the Ultra AXmp and this is an valuable system for you, the refurbished replacement part (only System I/O Board) is available from a company for USD 600.
Maybe the System Control Board is damaged as well.
Where are you located ?

Hello,
instead of editing my post, I opted to post an answer instead, just to trigger a notification.
Are there any updates ?
While I think that you damaged the system and it requires repair or replacement, it's worth a try to diagnose the system by attaching to the console port.
The sever begins to boot and we get lights on all of the drives but nothing comes up on the monitor at all.
How do you know that it boots ? Maybe the harddisks are just spinning-up !
Please post an update. It's really depressing to waste my time.
Why did I ask where you are located ? The Ultra AXmp/mp+ (assembled by TRITEC as ESU450) have been sold on eBay Germany a few times in the last six month.
If you expect an offical answer from Sun, open a service case and get paid support.
