Java Crash

I recently downloaded update 10. Now when ever I visit a page that has a java app my browser immediately closes. This happens with both FireFox 5.0 and the latest version of IE. I have XP-professional.

I have un-installed and reinstalled Java with the same result.

Contacting Java for support has lead me here.

Here is the response I received:

Not sure what the problem is, but if you are using windows there is a system restore wizard feature that can restore your system to previous state before the update. Assuming you did the update within 2-3 weeks.

Go to start->help and support->fixing problem(bottom left)->using system restore to undo changes(bottom left)->(pick a task)->system restore wizard->restore computer earlier time and then browse the calendar to see if it's available.
