Solaris unexpected shutdown

Hello!

Hope to get any good recommendations that can help me find the reason of unexpected shutdown to standby mode of a web server on Solaris 10 on X4100 Opteron hardware.

The following analysis was performed.

- User login and commands history checked.

- /var/adm/messages* checked

- /var/log/syslog* checkd

- ILOM logs checked (no sensor thresholds were exceeded)

Nothing that could point to the reason! Some logs missed records close to the shutdown time. May be there are some other ways or methods?

Thx

Have you checked the usual suspects, i.e., heat and/or power?I don't have much experience with x86, but when a box shuts down and nothing is written to the logs, it usually is a power failure.(bad PSU, someone unplugging the box, etc).

Make sure the box has lots of ventilation. AMD equipment, in my experience so far, seems to be VERY touchy in regards to heat/ventilation. You just can't get away with things like you can on SPARCs...
