Anybody have any opinions on ProGuard?

Please see my thread on obfuscated jar problems, if you want to know where this is coming from.

We've been flogging the deceased equine known as SourceGuard for many years, somehow getting it to work with JDKs that weren't even in beta test the last time that product was maintained. But it's finally failed completely.

I've been experimenting with ProGuard 3.7, and while my own results have been surprisingly good (especially compared with how ornrey SourceGuard was), I'd like to know if anybody else has any opinions, caveats, &c. on it.

While personally I don't think source code obfuscation is worth the trouble, I've got some experience with ZKM. It worked more often than not and when it didn't the support wasn't to bad. On the other hand I've never used any other obfuscator, so maybe I'm content with the worst contender ;-)

Unfortunately, Klassmaster is not exactly cheap, and DashO is downright expensive.

As I recall, SourceGuard had a fairly reasonable price, but it was a pain in the equus asinius to use.

ProGuard seems like it would be a good choice, but I'd still like to hear of other people's experiences.
