Possible to run .ics attachment automatically?

Here's my issue: I've written a program which sends an iCalendar meeting request, and I can send the message with the attached .ics just fine, but the receiver has to manually run the attachment to insert the new calendar item. I'd like to have the attachment run automatically, if possible.
