Failure to retrive Channel
Usually I use the Window Console to connect to a server.
When I attempted to use the Linux Console I got an error message. It is the same message if I run the console as myself or as root
I can telnet to the target server on those ports (specified in .directory.rc) so I'm fairly sure that it isn't a firewall issue. I've removed the configuration directory contents so there isn't any left over configuration data mismatch.
the message box reads "Failure to retrieve channel information from the server. Consult with Technical Support"
what else should I be trying in order to use this interface?

no logs in /opt/local/aduva/director_agent for that time frame
or in /var/lib/aduva/director_agent/logs/ which appear to be the same directory
I checked error.log and directory_agent.log
I didn't see any reference to anything with the client ip or user name at that time [I saw other errors but nothing that fit a criteria of IP address or User Name or Time Frame.]
Where else do I look?(and nothing was in the /var/log directories either)

I didn't see any errors in that file. but then I didn't find any files in that directory.
just to be sure, I rm -rf the directory_console location
and untarred from the tar.gz,and as root ran the ./Install script
on executing the directory_console.sh script, the nice splash page displayed, and then the same failure to retrieve Channel.
and the only thing in the log directory was the Install.log file..

yes it did, before the crash (which either caused the channel contents to disappear or the contents disappearence caused the crash)
but the windows consoles seem to work, the intel linux consoles have this problem. (and there isn't any z/os linux consoles to test)
so the linux console is running under VMware (but that in and of itself shouldn't be apart of the problem)
as near as I can tell, the ports are open between the linux workstation and the director_server machine (telnet machine_name port_number connects), there are no firewalls between the two.
i'm fairly certain that I have seen it run in the past, but not recently
