Ubuntu on a Blade 2000

Hi, I've succesfully installed Ubuntu server for SPARC on my Blade 2000 with a xvr-500 graphics card but I still haven't been able to configure Xorg. The sunffb driver does not respond ("device not found" error) and I haven't found any useful information for this video card.

Has anyone had success configuring it? If so, which driver should I use?

Thanks in advance,

Hello Lucas,

you wrote (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=334007)

I think I'll be asking for advice on the sun forums, maybe someone over there has more luck or experience.

The majority is using Solaris on SPARC. I think you have to further investigate on the several Linux on SPARC newslist.

When will the deficencies/bugs in the Forums software be fixed ?

Yes indeed,

I decided to ask here because of the famous agreement between Sun and Canonical (http://www.ubuntu.com/sun) to offer support for Ubuntu on Sun hardware.

I know that the Blade 2000 is not among the "chosen", but I thought it was worth a try.

For now I will keep on investigating, or maybe look for a compatible graphics card ;-)

Cheers,

Hi!

I once put up the complete Gnome 2.14 on a UltraSparc60.

These days I'm more practical of Gentoo Linux.

I'd say you're lacking the sunffb driver. Try to download Sun drivers.

The ordinary way to put up a desktop is to use the ubuntu-desktop package by using either apt-get or aptitude.
