When ever I start the system it tries to boot from network. The HDD of system is blank and unpartioned. How do I boot the system from CDROM .........Can any one help me.......

Hello Animesh ,
power the system on. Wait a few seconds, then press the keys STOP and A simultaneously. This should get you to the ok-prompt.
When you see the prompt, enter setenv auto-boot? false and setenv diag-switch? false. The first command disables automatic boot from the boot-device (which is either one of the disks or the network). The second command disables diagnostics (the POST Power-On-Selftest is not affected). If no bootable device is found, the system tries to boot from the network (the diag-device).
Then insert the Software 1 CD (the Blade 150 requires Solaris 8 2/02 or newer) and enter boot cdrom to start the installation.
When the installation is finished, on the next power-cycle the system won't boot automatically. Just enter setenv auto-boot? true to re-enable automatic boot. Then enter boot.

Any updates ?

Hey kids,Does this trick work on an Ultra 60? I bought it off Ebay & I want to re-partition the HDD. It came pre-loaded with Solaris 10 6/06.Thanks,Aubrey

Aubrey,
Have you tried Michael's suggestions from 3-Jan-07 ?
What happens?
Here's your U-60 in the Sun System Handbook:
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/U60/U60.html
... and the "Related Documentation" link on that page can give you more information.

Edit:
Aubrey,
Do not expect the original poster to respond.
Most do not. They ask their solitary question and never return.
(In fact, they never return to award their Duke-Dollar-points.
Michael how close are you to Silver?)

I haven't tried it yet, but will soon. I'll let you know how it works.ThanksAubrey

Ok.
This is what I did:
STOP-A
setenv auto-boot? false
setenv diag-switch? false
boot cdrom
This is what I'm getting:
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device.
This may be a 'stoopid' question, but would it make a difference if I have a DVD as opposed to a CDROM? I'm using the SPARC dvd from the 6/06 media kit.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
Aubrey

Hello Aubrey,
are you trying to use a DVD media in your CD drive ? Indeed a CD drive isn't capable to read from a DVD.
Download the Solaris 10 SPARC CD images from Sun and burn them onto CD-R ("create CD from image"). Alternatively you can try to get a SCSI DVD drive.
Even if you can't reward Duke Dollars in this thread (I'm just lacking 5 to get silver) ...
Is your CD drive detected (displayed by probe-scsi-all) ?
The above command displays the detected harddisks as well.
Review the Ultra 60 Service Manual for trouble shooting procedures.

No. I have a DVD drive and I can mount the dvd (under Solaris, Linux & Winders). I didn't know if there was a different boot option for DVD or if CDROM works on both (as you can read cd's on a dvd drive). I'll try the probe option.
How about I start another thread? I"ll get you to Silver. lol
Thanks,
Aubrey

Hello Aubrey,
if this is a (Sun branded) Toshiba SD-M1401, the firmware might be outdated (1007, 1009 is the current one).
The following patch (firmware update) is required to boot from DVD (the bug dates back to Solaris 8, which was the first version supplied on DVD). Mounting a DVD works even with the "buggy" firmware.

didn't know if there was a different boot option for DVD or if CDROM works on both (as you can read cd's on a dvd drive).
No, booting from CD or DVD is the same command (boot cdrom).

I have applied the 1009 firmware to the DVD ROM successfully, but still not
able to boot solaris 10 DVD media from DVD ROM. Below is the error message:
-
ok boot cdrom
Boot device: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f File and args:
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device
-
The DVD media is 11/06 version 3 of the Solaris 10. Sun sent it to me through mail.
Thanks.
