Solaris 10 or Solaris 8

Hello everyone. I had stuck between chosing Soralis 10 and 8.

I have SunFire280R and StorEDGE A1000.

So when Im installing Solaris 8 and RAID Manager 6.22 all works, but I can't find SSH and Samba packages for it. I used them from Solaris 10.

But resolving dependencies I screwed it up...

When Im Installing Solaris 10 I have SSH and Samba, but I can't install RAID manager... Exactly I can, but it doesn't work. It writes that rdaemon couldn't be started and dev_get_dev_info is undefined. I couldn't find any Solaris 10 patch for RM 6.22, so I've tried from 9th - they didn't work.

Im new in this things(used Solaris just for few weeks), can you give me advice what to do better.

For your circumstances, my vote is for Solaris 8.You can always download and install SSH and Samba from freeware web sites. http://www.blastwave.org/ http://www.sunfreeware.com/ http://sourceforge.net/index.phpLet's see what others might think.

The A1000 RAID was end-of-lifed in Solaris 10, so its offically not supported. Having said that it still might work, but i haven't tested it.Could you use Solaris 9? I think most of the things you want are available in S9, and it still supports the A1000. .7/M.
