Driver failed to attach to QLogic Host Bus Adaptor

Hi,

I'm new to Solaris, and have been trying to install a Sun StorEdge 2Gb FC card into a SunBlade 2500 running Solaris 8, but have run into a few problems.

I have followed the installation procedure from the Release Notes on Sunsolve as follows:

- InstallSUNWsan,SUNWcfpl andSUNWcfplx from theSFS_base_packages.S8 package.

- Install the recommended patches as per the Release Notes

- Then when I attempt to install theQLA2300 driver package from QLogic, it installs but returns the following error.

devfsadm: driver failed to attach: qla2300

Warning: Driver (qla2300) successfully added to system but failed to attach.

I then modify the/etc/driver_aliases file to remove all references to the native Solaris qlc driver, and insert the lineqla2300 "pci1077,2312"

When I then install the Qlogic SANsurfer CLI package, and attempt to display the host information, it returns no information about a HBA, despite the drivers seeming to load at boot time attached to hba0 and hba1.

I have used this exact same procedure on a V440 Server running Solaris 9 (albeit different patches) and the installation was successful.

If anyone could perhaps shed some light on this problem it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Case closed:The problem was the driver files, this particular instance of the SG-XPCI2FC-QF2-Z (QLA2342R) requires the rev 5.1 drivers from QLogic.
