Installing S10 on SPARC

Hi,

I have an old sun SPARC server, think its a duel 300mhz cpu's. I am trying to install Solaris 10 on it using a hot-swa[pable SCSI ULTRA HDD caddy thing, it can take scsi HDD's in this box, then a SCSI wire going to thje box. Never used sun, SCSI or Solaris :S

SCSI caddy boots 5 green lights for 5 HDD's and 2 lights on the back with SCSI lead going to my IN slot on the caddy. solaris appears to start, I run though installer options, then it installes, gets to something like...

iscsi driver (usr) and hangs for ages, then says

Error: Could not create the product file

Error: Could not install all packages propduct instalation failed

mkdir: "/a/var/sadm/launcher. I/O error

I am thinking, maybe the hdd that takes usr is dodgy, maybe change the HDD which this installs to? Or maybe this is a known error?

Any advice, tips, or things to do test?

Thanks

Chris

P.S do get some kind of HDD error when starting boot cdrom but this stops after a few mins and install seams to go fine till about 80% when I get that

I was having a run around last night, and used the boot cdrom -s and now I have started formatting my 6 drives, 2 are offline, 1 is always ofline, the other only sometimes. the lights on the SCSI caddy are 4 on 2 off, and it says offline, so I guess maybe an error or something, but this shouldn't effect instillation should it? Maybe I will remove those tonight just incase,

But anyway, I am now formatting, it will take a while to do the 3 remaining drives, but when in the format mode, I notice there is label option and volume, should I label/name my drives, maybe this is why it cannot install the packages? Or should I not need to do this?

Thanks for your help

Chris

I don't think labeling makes much difference. I've never had to.Aubrey

Worth verifying that the old kit has 64-bit CPUs.Solaris 10 on x86 can be 32 or 64 bit.On sparc, it's 64bit or bust.

No problem. I have a question for you. I have an Ultrasparc 60. Can I use any mfg SCSI drives in this box?

In general, yes. I've installed many 3rd party drives with no issues.-- Darren
