Sun-Fire-280R and RSC card problem

Hello Everyone,

I have an identical problem with 2 identical machines. They both are SunFire-280R running solaris 8 (exact version below). I can't seem to get the rsc cards on them configured. I am using the newest software that supports them (as far as i know) from the package rsc2.2.3_packages_s8.zip.

Here is some background info:

/etc/release:

Solaris 8 HW 5/03 s28s_hw2wos_06a SPARC

Copyright 2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Assembled 30 April 2003

uname -a:

SunOS [hostname.domain] 5.8 Generic_108528-23 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R

Here is the problem:

I install the SUNWrsc package successfully. Then I go to the "/usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R/rsc" directory so I can configure the card as usual.

When I run ./rsc-config I get the following error:

rscadm: RSC returned garbage: 0x00000053:0x00000018

This happens on both of my Sun-Fire-280R(s). The are they exact same error messages and error codes. I found one reference on sunmanagers archive of someone else having this problem, but no solution. Its hard for me to believe that both of them are bad at the same, but im not assuming anything.

Anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong, or anything i could do to verify that the cards are indeed malfunctioning. Maybe a patch that could fix it (i couldn't find anything).

Thanks much in advance.

Followup:

We ended up opening up a case with sun to get the problem resolved. Once we submitted the same information as above, without any questions they overnighted us 2 new rsc cards. I just popped them in and without any software changes I was able to get them configured. They are working great now. Apparently both cards were faulty at the same time :)
