How to access the "OK" prompt?

Hi,

I have an E3500 server.

The variables "output-device" and "input-device" of the Open Boot PROM was incorrectly changed to "ttya". The correctly values are "console" and "keyboard".

Now I can磘 use the keybord and monitor to access the server and I can磘 connect via telnet or other way to the server because the boot process hangs.

Anybody knows how I do to access the Open Boot prompt to correct the variable values?

Thank磗

Check the key-switch on the front. Maybe it's in the locked or diag position.Michael

Paulo,

Keep in mind that the factory default settings are for ttya.

Your customized and desired settings may have been for keyboard and screen.

Yes, take Michael's suggestion and check the position of the keyswitch.

Only a "normal" position permits free console access, regardless of input alias.

DIAG will delay access until deep POST is completed.

LOCK prevents any input.

Even set to TTYa, you should be able to interrupt

a malfunctioning POST with a break signal through the serial console (TTYa).

Hi,

The key switch is in "normal" position.

I磎 trying to connect to the server by the serial A port. It is the option to access the server described in server manual.

But, I don磘 have a ASCII console. I磎 trying to use the "hyperterminal" software of Windows. This is good option to do?

Thank磗 for your help

Paulo

Yes, hyperterminal works just fine. You'll most likely need a null-modem cable rather than a standard straight through cable though.
