Help on printing from Application svr(Solaris 10) to client device(Laptop -

Dear SGD Forum users,

Objective: To be able printing from Application server( Solaris 10 Sparc ) to my client device( WinXp Pro ).

Summary: I cannot print from UNIX application server to my laptop Windows XP desktop.

I had installed SGD 4.3 release in my Sun T2000 server on Solaris 10 Sparc. My application server is Netra t1 with Solaris 10 Sparc. I had read up some guides regarding printing in SGD help page and i think i had confused myself. Now seeking some help from SGD users out there.

Actions:

1. I have added Network printers( Brother HL-8050N, Canon LBP-326, HP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL and Xerox Phaser 6200DP ) in my laptop and tested to print with a success.

2. From Array Manager, "Printing" properties

- Printing: Let users print to all client printers

- PDF Printing: Let users print to a PDF printer( Checked )

Let users print to a PDF local file( Checked )

Driver Name: HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS

- Click Apply.

3. Copy prtinstall.en.sh from SGD server to application server.

4. # sh prtinstall.en.sh

DNS name of primary Secure Global Desktop server: sgd.esuria.com

Installing printer configuration file...

Installing lp/lpr "wrapper" scripts...

Local system type is Solaris OS on SPARC[R] platforms.

Informing lp subsystem about remote printer tta_printer

redirected to printer tta_printer on Secure Global Desktop host sgd.esuria.com...

Running: lpsystem -tbsd sgd.esuria.com

"sgd.esuria.com" has been added.

Running: lpadmin -p tta_printer -s'sgd.esuria.com!tta_printer'

Running: enable tta_printer

Warning: tta_printer is remote, enable has no meaning.

Running: accept tta_printer

Warning: tta_printer is remote, accept has no meaning.

Success.

5. From laptop, launch firefox browser and typed sgd.mydomain.com

- Username: demo1

- Password: 123

- Launch dtpad( dtpad from UNIX application server )

- Type simple letters, abc123.

- Click File, Print

- Printer GUI comes up with Printer name tta_printer and i click print. Then pop-up shows " request id is tta_printer-6( 1 file )

Now, here i am stuck.

Note: I don't install and configure any printers in my SGD server(T2000). I only installed printers in my laptop.

I also did follow the guide "Configuring the Secure Global Desktop server to accept remote print requests" which i added Application server hostname/ip address in the /etc/hosts.equiv file.

I believe, i did forgot some steps. Need some help to guide me to solve my problem.

Hi all,

Just to give some missing points;

- I had not installed and configured any printers in my SGD server.

This is the output from /etc/printers.conf ( Application Server )

tta_printer:\

:bsdaddr=sgd.esuria.com,tta_printer,Solaris:

and this is output from /etc/printers.conf ( SGD 4.3 Server )

tta_pdfprinter:\

:bsdaddr=sgd-01,tta_pdfprinter,Solaris:

tta_printer:\

:bsdaddr=sgd-01,tta_printer,Solaris:

This is the result of "tarantella print status" command;

sgd-01.esuria.com:

- Printing services available

- Jobs spooled: 0

Total jobs spooled: 0

Rgds,

Mohamed Ali

Hi all,I had solved the printing problem by studying my SGD error log files. I had solved most of the errors appeared in error log file and the printing works fine.
