cant run my JAR program

hi i am new to linux as u can guess :-)

i was been developing my Jar file in windows under the latest netbeans5.5

now as i also have a Mepic 6.0 installed on my system i wanted to check if it works cross platform. but i cant seem to be able to run my application. on teh terminal also if i write javac i get a unknown command. how do i link the JVM to my OS. (integrate it).

please help..

{ i have also installed the latest GRE just now still no change, i had hoped the GRE installation will automatically link the commands).
