yeh it ships with the rhino engine or somethingdon't think it's anything to worry about. java will still != javascript, much like java != xml even though it ships with XML libraries

yes george you and me can make that distinction, but for many of the new people in the forum this could be a devastating few months.

I still have the attitude that JavaScript != Java. Just because the JVM will be able to intrerpret JavaScript will not neccessarily make JavaScript = Java. And most of the questions that people will ask still means that JavaScript != Java because it will be JavaScript scripts executing in a Browser that 99% of posters will be asking about.

So, it doesn't bother me. I don't neccessarily like it, or support it, but it doesn't bother me either.

good point. I can see it now:

John C. Newbie: how do I make dancing squirrels on my web page in javascript?

georgemc: java != javascript. this is a java forum. etc

John C. Newbie: but java now supports javascript. it says so here

georgemc: that's not the same as java being javascript

John C. Newbie: but it says so here here

georgemc: it doesn't say java is javascript

John C. Nebwie: why is everyone here so unhelpful? wah wah you're all a bunch of geek nerds with no girlfriends. screw you, I'm off to javaranch

georgemc: bye then

etc

They do this already, only without any kind of tact, spelling ability, or most importantly links.

Then again, this won't happen exactly like this, since they will never have taken the time to read the documentation, so their argument will be that Joe told them so.
