Migrating a server hosting both MMP & MSG
imsimta version
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 2 (built Jul 14 2004)
libimta.so 5.2 Patch 2 (built 19:30:12, Jul 14 2004)
SunOS apollo1 5.9 Generic_112233-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire
There's ongoing work to move the mail and mmp applications running on one server to another new server.
The old server has both messaging and mmp. So the situation is a little different from the norm, and thus the reason why I'm posting this post.
Are there other crucial components that should be backed up and moved to the new server besides the LDAP instance?
The filesystem is mounted through EMC software.
Any recommendations? Please advise.
Thanks, Ken.

When you say 'move' what do you mean by this. Is the new server supposed to be a duplicate of the old server e.g. same IP address/same host-name etc. or are you just moving user accounts across?
Given that you are currently running a soon-to-be-unsupported release of messaging server (5.2) you may want to consider installing a newer (6.2) version of messaging server and migrating accounts across.

No so much different. The only difference this makes is that the MMP will be sharing one port number e.g. 143 for IMAP and the messaging server has to be on another e.g. 1143.

We need to know what your ultimate goal is to understand the best path forward.

Not exactly sure how this matters.
