Ultra 20 patches

I just got a new Ultra 20, and there's about 8 patches that won't apply, most having to do with compilers, but also one or two dealing with System Administration Applications. Is this normal?

Also, and actually more importantly, neither sound nor screensavers work on my workstation, and with the screensaver not working, this means I can't lock my machine. That's sort of important.

Any help would be appreciated, particularly with the screensaver/locking problem.

Hello,

none of these problems is hardware related.

there's about 8 patches that won't apply, most having to do with compilers, but also one or two dealing with System Administration Applications.

Without lisiting the patches that won't apply and the error messages, it's impossible to make a suggestion.

Only patches for installed packages can be installed.

..neither sound nor screensavers work on my workstation

The screensaver problem is an configuration issue. Regarding sound, did you browse the Hardware Forum for similiar threads ?

I would recommend that you re-post on the General Solaris 10 Discussion or Sun Update Connection-System / Hosted, Patch Manager & PatchPro forum.

Be prepared to provide more details.

Michael

Hi Mr Ivers,

these patches have to be added in the global zone. Download them from

http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/patch-access

search the ones which failed (e.g. 121616-02.zip), unzip them (unzip 121616-02.zip), and use the -G option to apply them (patchadd -G 121616-02).

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Peter.

Hi,To fix the gnome-screensaver-problem you just have to add the path /usr/openwin/bin to the PATH of your .profile file.Regards,Fabian
