Sun Ultra 5 with Solaries 8 OS

I have purchased Sun Ultra 5 through ebay and tried to connect to my flat screen. That time, I see key board lights and also system always up and fan running. But I did not see any information on screen. Then I figured out that I need to have sun 17' monitor and I bought that too. Now the problem is that power is not coming up. what ever I do, system is just dead. I tried STP + N while powering on the system etc. I have removed the power unit from the system and tested. Fan never runs and It looks like dead. Does this mean, power unit has a failure? Do I need to buy that? or any system trouble shooting I have to do? please advice step by step.

I am a beginner and wants to learn solaries OS.

thanks for your guidance!

how did you test the power supply? you can use a peecee power supply in the U5... just make sure it has 250w/300W output...

if the only thing you did was switch monitors, it is hard to say what happened... did you open the case between monitors? did you move the U5 and maybe jostled it?

reinstall the Sun power supply and check the connections... maybe reseat the memory.... you could reseat the cpu, but it is a pain...

good luck,

I did nothing between monitors. I never opend the case. As I could not see any messages on the FLAT screen, I have restarted the system number of times ( say 10 times). Then I bough new sun monitor.I feel the system got stuck some where. When I tested the power unit independently FAN is not running. Does this mean power unit gone!!. I did tested with 230 output. How do I reset the cpu/memory?

thanks for your help!!

Firstly, the Ultra 5 doesn't require a Sun monitor. Just about any old PC monitor with VGA connector will work.If the fan doesn't run, it's likely either the fan is dead, or has a bad connection. Which fan are you talking about, the PSU fan?
