Set up ULTRA 30
Hello,
We just had a 4 Sun Ultra 30's donated to our department. I want to install solaris 10 on at least one of them. I'm not really sure where to begin, as I am new to Sun workstations.
When I start up one the workstations, I get a message "drive not ready, can't read disk label". It then try's to do a network boot. I want to set at least one of them to boot off the hard drive.
Any help with where to get started with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

when you get the spash page (testing memory).. hit the Stop and the A keys... this is if you have a Sun keyboard... type boot cdrom...
the "drive not ready, can't read disk label" is fixed when you see deciding on language... right click and open a new window... type format and it will ask if you want to label the drive... say yes...
close the window and you might be able to start the install.. if not, do another stop + A and type boot cdrom..
is this enough?

... in addition to that ...
Ultra 30's ?
You're in luck as far as the Sun System Handbook is concerned.
Sun has included that system (and that system only)
as a fully documented resource in the free version of the SSH.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/Example/U30.html
free = no service contract required to see ALL the details of a system.
The U-30 is on that site to show what the contract-level SSH can be like.
You've got access to board layouts, InfoDocs, photos, and more.
Enjoy !
