Trouble with Ultra I creator 3D workstation

Hello,

I have got a Ultra I creator 3D workstation and i try to install linux on it.

I have connected a scsi dvd drive but i can't boot from the linux dvd.

when i run "boot cdrom'

the computer returns on reboot :

Boot device: /sbus/SUNW,fas@e,8800000/sd@6,0:f File and args:

Evaluating: boot cdrom

Can't open boot device

When i run "test scsi" , the computer returns the following message :

CE DMA fill from address ff15c000 for 80 bytes ERROR: DMA hang condition detected

ERROR: DMA Hang condition detected

ERROR: DMA failed

Address ff15a001

Expected 1

Observed 0

Timeout wait for terminal count

scsi selftest failed. return code = -1

Is it something wrong with the harware or am is it something i missed ?

what scsi address is the dvd set at? Sun's default is 6.... I am not quite sure if the dvd in itself has any problem.... but it may be the 512 sector problem... what drive are you trying to use?haroldkarl

Hello,

is the drive properly terminated and set to a unique SCSI ID ?

This appears to be a hardware issue, the media isn't even read.

Please post the output of probe-scsi and devalias (at least for cdrom)!

I had to jumper my SCSI DVD (Pioneer DVD-U03S) drive for a sector size of 2048 bytes. With 512 bytes sector size the Solaris DVD could be mounted, but I was unable to boot from this Solaris DVD.

I have connected a scsi dvd drive but i can't boot from the linux dvd.

Linux for SPARC on DVD ? Which distribution (Gentoo, Ubuntu and Aurora are supplied as CD images, none of them as DVD image) ?

Michael,

I know Aurora 2.0 has a dvd distro-- a very incomplete one... I didn't know that Ubuntu was ported to sparc? I do now... am downloading it... it isn't big enough for dvd status... as for gentoo.. I would rather have teeth pulled...

512 byte setting... need to know brand of dvdrom....
