Blade 1000 dead after

Hi everyboy!

I own a Blade 1000 with 1x600MHz CPU and tried today to update the old OBP 4.0 via serial console to the latest OBP (patch 118323-01) available.

I followed the instructions given and received at the end the expected "Programming successful" message, however instead of resetting after the programming the machine powered down (there was no power outage).

I tried to restart several times without success, the machine always powered down almost immediately.

I followed the recovery procedures given in the update instructions but the machine still powered down immediately.

Next I removed the NVRAM battery in the hope that some vars were stored in a wrong way.

Now when I power on the system i get the following messages on the console:

.Powering off system!

ok .version

.version?

ok help

help?

ok

Every command entered is returned with a question mark :(

When I simply enter "?" on the console, the machine hangs.

So I guess the OBP update went terribly wrong (but I really don磘 know why)...Is there a way to change/reprogram the Boot PROM? I have a similar Blade available which I could use for it, and which I updated last week without problems.

From what I understand so far it wont help to change the IDPROM with such a error indication.

Thanks for your help!

Chris

This worked for me, after a flash update gave me '4 beeps then power-off' at power-up.

0. power off.

1. connect serial device

2. Remove IDPROM chip.

3. power up

4. watch all the self-tests fly by.

5. power-off

6. re-seat IDPROM

7. power up

It may be that 0, 2, 5, 6 and 7 are all that was needed.

This may not work for you at all.
