SunFire V240 -- Unable to view OpenBoot prompt -- PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

Recently, one of our servers Sunfire V240 running Solaris 9.0 OS started acting up by talking too long to respond to command line commands. It would take a couple of minutes to get a listing from "ls" for example. Then a little later we couldn't ssh to it anymore. We had to force to shutdown it and then try to reboot it. However, we've been having hard time getting to the "ok" prompt:

sc>poweron

SC Alert: Host System has Reset

sc>

Now when trying to break to the OpenBook OK prompt with either "break -y" or "console" command we see the following message

sc> console

Enter #. to return to ALOM

However, we do not see the "ok" prompt. The terminal just hangs. Typing "#." does bring it back to ALOM prompt, though. We've tried "reset" command, but no luck. However, if we execute XIR Reset, we are able to see some kind of ok prompt:

sc> reset -x

Are you sure you want to XIR the system [y/n]?y

SC Alert: SC Request to execute XIR Reset on the Host.

sc> console

Enter #. to return to ALOM.

{0} ok

But executing "boot" command from this prompt just hangs the terminal:

{0} ok boot

SC Alert: Host System has Reset

XIR/Watchdog Reset

OpenBoot 4.8.2, 2048 MB memory installed, Serial #54573055.

Ethernet address 0:3:ba:40:b7:ff, Host ID: 8340b7ff.

Rebooting with command: boot

Does anyone have any idea why we are not able to see normal "ok" prompt as before? How can we boot this server or what can we do to bring it back to life. I've done research online prior to posting to this forum, but haven't been able to find a solution so far.

Thank you in advance,

Dmitri.

Well, I'd recommend updating your OBP.

4.8.2 is antique.

4.22.22 is current.

You need to check your ALOM version as well.

If you don't have at least 1.2 you will need to update it also.

1.6.1 is current.

After updating the OBP, until you update the ALOM to at least 1.2 the readme

notes that the fault led will flash even though theres no fault...
