Configuring SunMC to use SNMP-over-SSH (or something else)

Hi there,

I was just wondering, if this is possible it would really be the solution to a lot of headaches ;-)

The SunMC server and agent use SNMP to talk to eachother, it's a two-way process. But what if there are firewalls between the two, and I can't use SNMP?

Basically, you would have this setup:

SunMC Server -- FW - FW -- SunMC Agent

or....

SunMC Server -- FW - FW -- SunMC Server -- SunMC Agent

All IP addresses are fully routable, so I don't have to worry about NAT or anything.

The problem is, I'm not allowed to open a lot of ports on both firewalls, or to use two-way SNMP. I am however allowed to use ssh from Server->Agent and vice-versa.

Can I get the SunMC server to send all SNMP traffic to the agent via ssh? I'm sure I'm not the only one who came across this problem, does anyone have a good solution for this, maybe not using ssh but something else?

Thank you very much in advance for any pointers you can come up with!

Same problem like you have.We have a dedicated SunMC server in the firewall area to overcome the firewall restrictions.
