Please let me know ifHardware Diagnostic Suite is part of SMC and whether it can be installed without a separete download.

The Hardware Diagnostics Suite is part of the SunMC 3.6.1 (and previous versions) and is included in the download. You will find it in the Advanced Systems Monitoring add-on. I find it very easy to use and use it frequently when I suspect a hardware error on one of the systems. It's also possible to schedule these hardware checks and get alarms when something's wrong, so you don't have to manually check 300 systems every now and then.
As an alternative, you can use the Sun Validation Test Suite, also called SUNWvts and is included with the Solaris software or available as a seperate download. It does basically the same thing without having to install a complete SunMC server, the VTS kernel runs as a background process and you can use a graphical application (installed on a different machine if you want) to perform and schedule hardware tests. A text-only TTY interface is also available.
