Barcode scanner don't work in Sun Blade 1500

I connect a USB barcode scanner to Blade 1500 that have attached a USB keyboard and mouse. The OS warn that "Multiple keyboards not supported"

But if I connect the USB barcode scanner, and don't connect the USB

keyboard and mouse. The USB barcode scanner work well.

If I plug out the USB barcode scanner and plug in the USB keyboard and

mouse.The USB keyboard work well.

The solaris version is 8 (2/04),the kernel patch is 108528-23.

I have refered "Solaris 8 System Administration Supplement(2/04)".

It tell me "Multiple keyboards are not supported".

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/806-7502/6jgce01v3?l=zh&a=view

Do I need install some patches to support barcode scanner and keyboard concurrently .

What can I do?

Please help me to solve the issue.

Thank you!

The kernel patch on your system is down a few revisions, the latest is 108528-29.I'll search for USB issues on this system and post back asap.

A Solaris kernel version of 108528-23 is actually more than three years' out of date,

and suggests that the system was installed and never patched after day #1.

Glance through Spectrum Infodoc 76028 for a discussion on

why there are at least two newer kernel patch numbers beyond '108528'.

That document is entitled:

" Why are there multiple kernel patches for the Solaris[TM] 8, 9 and 10 Operating Systems? "

Let Martin research this a bit as he has offered to do, but a couple of possibilities come to mind ...

(1) your Solaris release may not be able to handle multiple input devices

and you'll need to reinstall with a new Solaris 8 release,

or ...

(2) you will need to apply the full Recommended Cluster update,

which will install dozens and dozens of functional patch updates,

just to get the input devices to co-exist simultaneously.

Also, have you been able to get any advice

from the manufacturer of that barcode scanner?

Was it even designed to work within a UNIX environment ?

You're way ahead of me rukbat! There is an internal SRDB on USB mouse and keyboard that I was thinking about, but the system needs to be patched first. The patches I had in mind were 108528-29, 109896-30 and 119236-01. The system also needs a 8_Recommended ( this is how I keep my Solaris 8 box up dated ) which will upgrade to 117000. Perform these upgrades and test the configuration again. It is also well worth posting more information on your barcode scanner ( as suggested by rukbat ).

I also encounterred this problem on my Blade 1500. I installed Solaris 10 on this workstation. But it seems that it can't support multiple keyboards too. I do a lot of tests. I didn't find out a solution. The model of my barcode scanner is IT-3800, HHP. And the vendor doesn't have an idea either.

Please give me some suggestions!

Thanks!
