StorEdge A1000 Hard Disk

Hi All,Can we use other type of external hard disc for StorEdge A1000 bside the one provided by Sun? Other brand of hard disc or normal type of hard disc? If yes, what r the hard disk thats compatible with A1000?Thanks for any info at all.

Sort of. Other brands and types work, but keep in mind that the Sun disks contains special firmware that make them appear as idential capacity (eg. all 9GB regardless of MAB3091SC, ST39173WC, etc.).

This is important when you use the hardware mirroring. If you replace a failed mirrored drive you can even insert a larger capacity disk, but the capacity is cut back to the one of the smaller mirrored disk !

Don't mix different speed drives (7200 RPM, 10000 RPM).

I don't think your A1000 is under service contract, otherwise using non-Sun Components voids the contract/warranty.

Take the spud bracket, plate and screws from the failed drive.

Thanks for replying. The info u gave is good.

I recently bought a new hdd, but it doesnt work, probly bcos its from differenct manufacturer.

Anyway, the capacity is 36GB and RPM is 10000, but the rest of the hdd in A1000 has a capacity of 18GB and RPM is 7200, could it effect the hdd not to be able to b detected?...Do i need to buy a hdd that has the same capacity and RPM as the rest of the hdd in A1000? Thanks for any reply from u at all...
