SO and japanese input in linux

Hi all,

I installed Starsuite 8 on my Gentoo Linux. My system has a fully functional Japanese input (anthy + uim), and the locale is set to en-UTF8. I can input Japanese in any program but Starsuite. I tried changing the locale and the UI language, but in vain. Any help would be grealty appreciated.

Sorry if this has been already answered, but I searched everywhere and couldn't find anything relevant
