Star Office 8 problems
Hi list - something has happened to my program. Whilst I can open all my SDC files I cannot open any ODT or SXC files. I run on Windows 2000 Professional and up till now all has been ok.
The error message that I get when I try to open said files is " general error. general input/output error".
I have deleted the program twice and re-installed it twice but to no avail. The files I need to open asap are still there as is the data concerned.
Any ideas?

I would suggest the following (some of this may appear to be a duplicate - it is just to see what 'bit' is at fault).
1 - Open StarOffice / OpenOffice Text
Does this open ok - can you type and save something? If so the application is ok so far. If not go to the section below about re-install.
If Text opens ok - are you using an older version of star office to open a newer file version?
Can you open any other files - or do all files have the same issue?
Re-Installation
Go through the Windows uninstaller as "Administrator"
When this is complete REBOOT (I know that you don't always have to but I like to with Win)
Next log back in as Administrator
Go to c:\program files
Look for the staroffice / openoffice directory (or wherever you had it originally)
Make sure the folder is completely removed / deleted.
If you have just had to delete it... Reboot! :)
Log back in as administrator
Re-install the application again
If this again does not work please let us know.
