Yikes. Good luck. Linux is tough enough, I could not imagine putting Solaris on a laptop, particularly a Sony. I would suggest digging around the opensolaris forums. More likely to happen there.

hi alen,

thanks to ur response, i have gone through the intel site and did search for the drivers, its mentioned the drivers for the nic card can be available only from the software vendor, but the problem is, i didnt buy the solaris10 software from the sun. i have got the software cd from one of my friend and i installed.

could you please give me a better suggestion regarding that?

nic is intel 100 pro/VE

audio device is from sigmatel

thanks to your time

NO I can't recommend anything else. If Intel doesn't write them, and Sun doesn't write them, then someone else needs to write them. In the meantime you're the one left holding the bag.

Before you install Solaris on x86 you should run the check tool so you know about these things beforehand. Failing that you should check the HCL. Failing that there's the vendors web site. Failing that you use the search engines to try and scrounge something up. Failing that you could try posting a message on the laptop support forum on the opensolaris web site to see if anyone has written a driver for your NIC card. Failing that take a look at parallels workstation to see if you can use their software to get Solaris to initialize the hardware.

On the sound front you could try opensound.com to see if their software supports your situation. The last time I used their software you could use a demo version to see if it does initialize your sound card before you fork over the cash. Saves you money if it doesn't work.

Hello,

I have the VGN-FE21H also, what with the iprb (onboard LAN connection) driver inbuilt in solaris 10 11/06 (and previous I think without checking) and now with the launch of the wpi (wireless intel ABG) driver, using the wificonfig and inetmenu from opensolaris website, you can get both these interfaces going an absolute treat. The wpi driver is now SUNW packaged on the opensolaris and is ready to install for any version of solaris 10 depending on which file you download. I've had a go getting the sigmatel sound card going with no luck at this stage. The next step for my VGN-FE21H is to find a driver for the Vimicro USB2.0 web cam and get solaris to interact with my iPod in disk mode.

Will keep you posted if you are interested.
