having problems with java on my pc

hi wondering if any one can help me, i manage a website and part of my duties include moderating a chatroom, the chat room is java, when i installed the new version of java on my pc i loose my connection... when i shut a page down it shuts down in sectiions pretty much crashes and the pc just responds really slow, when i ininstall the java the pc is back to normal, can anyone help me please.... thanks for any help in advance
