If I recall correctly, Sun's replacement parts CD drives

were preset in the warehouse to be target #6.

That target ID of 6 is also what OBP would expect it to be.

(hardcoded device path)

Additionally, I think the U-30's removable media bay takes care of any termination.

Therefore do not terminate the SCSI bus with jumpers on the HP drive,

if there are such positions on the drive.

(I didn't go to HP's site to check on their product.)

Give that a shot. It will either work or not.Won't damage anything.

I am still in need of knowing what the jumper settings are on an HP 9600SI CD-Writer. The setting are ID1, ID2, ID4. Which combination will equal 6. I do not have the cd's to tell me what it ought to be and besides the CD's are for Wondows, nor Solaris.

Thank you,

Bridge a jumper (install it) onto the ID4 position.

Bridge another jumper to ID2.

That will leave you with two jumpers attached to the drive.

You will then have a drive that is configured as target #6. { 4 + 2 = 6 }

You're working with a Narrow SCSI circuit, and devices can only have ID's of 0 --> 7.

The sum of whatever jumpers are present give the result you need.

If you've never done that sort of thing before, it takes some coaching

before that 5-watt imaginary light bulb illuminates over your head.
