Cannot see tape SDLT600 on V440

Hi Support,

I cannot see the tape drive 0 in /dev/rmt/ folder after connecting SDLT 600 tape drive to a sun StorEdge PCI dual Ultra320 SCSI host adapter installed in Sun Fire V440 Server.

I did download the latest cluster patch and driver patches for solaris 9 (sparc) from Sun site and install them before installing any hardware. I can see the PCI card installed after running probe-scsi-all command but I cannot see the tape drive attached.

I don't know what mistake I did, can you please advise?

Thanks

Hello,

Hi Support,

These forums are user-to-user, not Sun support !

.. after running probe-scsi-all command but I cannot see the tape drive attached.

Was the drive working before, when attached to another system ?

Check the cable and terminator.

I cannot see the tape drive 0 in /dev/rmt/ folder after connecting SDLT 600 tape drive to a sun StorEdge PCI dual Ultra320 SCSI host adapter installed in Sun Fire V440 Server.

If the you get the drive detected at the ok-prompt, these are the next steps:

Are the drivers for the StorEdge PCI dual Ultra320 SCSI host adapter installed (they aren't included with Solaris) ? Review the Installation Guide for the hba.

Did you reboot with the reconfiguration option (either boot -r or touch /reconfigure; init 6) ? Using devfsadm -c tape might solve the problem without reboot.

Please provide more information !

Is this a Sun SDLT600 (what model, brand) ?

Michael

from ok prompt type "boot -r". Then check with probe-scsi-all. Perhaps it helps you. zulusa
