VMware workstations on Sun Fire X2100 M2

We would like to have a few VMware workstations installed on a server for product testing purposes in our company. These VMwares will include mostly MS Windows OS's and at most IIS installations too. Would theSun Fire X2100 M2 be suitable for this purpose? How many VMware workstations could work with no problem all together?

The 2100 isn't supported under ESX 3.0.x because of the fact that it has SATA drives internally... You'll want to go with something like a 4200. And you should easily be able to support 10 Workstations with that server as long as you have enough memory... 4GB or more.

M2 is also not supported. The support is planned on ESX 3.0.2 which is cooming soon...Maybe you should try free VMware Server, or try to use SAS disk instead of SATA with pcie SAS controller. (not tested)Regards,TM
