Problem Netra T1 . Doesn't respond anymore

Hello,

I have a Sun Netra T1 ultrasparc with Linux (Ubuntu Server) installed.

Every night the machine stops working. I don't know what just happens. Is it a crash? Is it a network problem? When this happens, I can access the computer with the "lom" and I can get the "ok" prompt but I can not access the system itself anymore(the operating system)! Also the secure shell doesn't work anymore. And the apache server is not reachable anymore.I have to reboot the system to get it working.

I have checked the logs but nothings interesting shows up.

Can anyone help me,

Kind regards,

Patrick Libert

If you see the OK prompt it means the system has halted.

I cannot help with interpreting whatever may or may not be in Linux logs.

If it were Solaris, there may be a better level of verbosity.

All I can suggest is that you attach another system

to your console output and capture all output for something like two days.

Logs do not capture everything that might appear out through console.

Thanks for your quick response.

That's the strange thing. You say: stay connected with the console from another machine.

When I do this, the problems doesn't occur. Neither when I stay logged in with ssh.

Just from the moment I close my ssh connection and close my serial connection it will halt the system after a while. I don't know very much about the sun netra and openboot and things like that. Could it be that I'm overlooking something simple? Could it be something with power saving management? ALL linux DISTRO'S I tried have the same problem!!

Just from the moment I close my ssh connection and close my serial connection it will halt the system after a while.

When you close the serial connection, this is interpreted as BREAK.

Maybe the BREAK occurs when you power-down the system that is is running the terminal-emulation, therefore the delay.

Review the man pages for kbd.

You may need to investigate the usage of that command,

else go in and edit the /etc/default/kbd file after reading the man pages.

Edit:

Whoops !

That's for Solaris.

... probably doesn't work in an unqualified OS.
