Info on Sun Ultra10 Servers, Just to be sure.
Hello ppl,
Just a couple of questions on the Ultra10 systems as i'm new to them, bare with me, k.
1, Tryed to gain access to the bios using F2 but no luck, can anyone help?
2, Is the bios firmware, is that right..? and where to get upgrades if needed?
3, I need to install new HDD's to the servers, is there a capacity limit(solaris 9 to be installed), do i need a bios upgrade/firmware..? I have downloaded the installation guides and from the look of them from the inside the HDD's just look like standard IDE devices.
Any help/links would be most appreciated, thankyou for you time...

1) The Ultra-10 is not a PeeCee.
There is no BIOS.
2) Sun System Handbook.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/U10/U10.html
There is a link on that page for the OBP flash update patch.
Don't do it until you know what you're doing.
Note the additional link on that page for the system's Documentation.
3) Read these forumsall the hardware forums.
Go back through about a year of posts. That should take weeks to accomplish.
The IDE controller on the systemboard has a 28-bit LBA drive size limitation.
You will only gat a nominal 137GB or less, with the internal drives.

K, thanks for a starting point, got some reading to do...
Got a couple of immediate questions,
The original HDD's are quite small in capacity, could they be replaced with some 20 gig Enhanced IDE HDD's, they seem to fit within the hardware specs ok.
How can i check the cdrom's max speed as its not specified on the front of the drive. program, command line, script?

At the ok-prompt

it's either a
Goldstar CRD-8483B 48x
Goldstar CRD-8322B/CRD-8324B32x
Goldstar CRD-8240B 24x
The 32x are the most common ones, the 48x was only installed in later models.
