Server Sizings

Hi,

I am trying to size a system. We need to the KTPMCs statistics for the machine. I cannot find these stats anywhere. HELP!! The suggested machine is a :-

Hardwarev440

UltraSPARC III Cu processor2 @ 1.5 GHz

Memory 4 GB

10000 RPM Ultra 3 SCSI LVD2 @ 140 GB

disk drive

64-Bit PCI slot1 @ 66 MHz

System configuration card Yes

Remote system management ALOM pre-installed

Power supply 2 @ 1500 Watt

Operating System Solaris 9

I appreciate that KTPMCs are a reference for RDBMS data.... Any ideas or does anyone have any figures?

Many thanks!!

There are detailed documents available on the system that I can research for you over the week end. Take a look over this site and I will post back with more asap: http://www.tpc.org/

Hi there, I have looked at this site previously with the aid of the server specialist from my company, but we couldn't find the stats for this machine (or a similar Sun Solaris spec). If you can still help then please do!! Many thanks again.

The only TPC benchmark run on the V440 was TPC-H which is a decision support benchmark:

http://www.tpc.org/tpch/default.asp

The V440 can be used for OLTP, but I beleive it is better suited for isp networking services or part of a horizontally scalable solution ( eg. cluster node ). I would consider a midrange system for OLTP work instead. The only Sun system I could locate on the TPC-C list is the E4500 which is currently EOL. The current next generation midrange system like the E4500 is the E2900, but it has a considerably higher price. What limitation do you have on budget etc.?
