10Gb Eth Adapters - problem with data transmition

Hi, I have two Sun Fire v20 servers. On both, I installed 10Gb Ethernet PCI-X cards with Intel CB82597EX PCIX MAC controller and optical transceiver duplex LC Model No. 871879, XG-Base-SR. I have Suse Linux 9.3 (x86_64) OS with 2.6.11.4-21.9-smp kernel on both of them.

ethtool shows this:

Settings for eth0:

Supported ports: [ FIBRE ]

Supported link modes:

Supports auto-negotiation: No

Advertised link modes: Not reported

Advertised auto-negotiation: No

Speed: Unknown! (10000)

Duplex: Full

Port: FIBRE

PHYAD: 0

Transceiver: external

Auto-negotiation: off

Current message level: 0x00000007 (7)

Link detected: yes

ifconfig:

I had deinstalled ixgb module and installed ixge module. After connection those cards together the LED diodes on cards show connection and pings go well.

But I have problems with sending anything bigger then simple 64 bits ping! Even when I increase pings packetsize to let say 4000 bits, after a while the server which recives packetes automatically reboots itself.

Can you help me? what can be the reason of such behave?

Waiting for your reply, best regards,

Alex

I don't think this issue is hardware related. Can you decribe more details of the host that is rebooting?

Hello Alex,

so can you tell me where on this web site can I find a helping hand to this problem, I don't see any e-mail or things like this.

these forums are user-to-user and not "offcial" Sun Support. You can contact (paid) Sun Support, but Suse 9.3 isn't listed as supported. Only the Enterprise versions are listed (these versions are sold with support).

Did you try the Novell/Suse support forums/newslists ? I would suggest that you search the net for similiar issues.

It's very likely that your problem is software related (driver issue, configuration). Does the other system crash when you change roles (receiving system as sender and sending as receiver) ?
